I grew up in Idaho; I was educated in the greater Chicagoland area: I received a  Ph.D in English Literature from the University of Notre Dame. I taught English Literature in Indiana, Georgia, and Newfoundland; I have taught graduate classes in a fully online environment; I have taught British Literature in a traditional classroom.

After moving to Newfoundland, and after the birth of my son, I shifted my writing focus from peer-reviewed scholarship to creative writing, publishing in American literary magazines such as Creative Nonfiction and Tahoma Literary Review. I also earned two emerging artist grants from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, as well as the Lawrence Jackson Writers' Award.

I now reside in Montreal with a Newfoundland poet and the collaborative project we titled 'son.' I teach sometimes: I write all the time.
